You're probably reading this and saying are you kidding me? The Conjuring 2 isn't a Christmas Horror film. Well it really isn't but most of the action takes place around the horrific holiday as you can see from the decorations in the films background and the mention of the dates. I know it's a cheap addition but I'm a cheap ass Bitch and this is a damn good movie. Although not as good as the superior original it's still a supremely solid film. It tells the true story of the Enfield Haunting. Where a family was Haunted by a diabolical spirit while living in their home. It mainly goes after one of the daughters named Janet played by a remarkable Madison Wolfen.
As with the first film the strengths lie in its classic and stylish execution, great character work from the family but most importantly from the Warrens played beautifully by Vera Farminga and Patrick Wilson who have some of the best chemistry ever seen on film. As for the scares they work because everything else is so well executed and there are some true shockers here especially with the introduction of the nun character creepier in this film with only a cameo than in her own feature. Another super Creepy moment is the films opening which takes place at the Amityville house. It actually may be the creepiest execution of the incident on film. The movie also has one of the franchises most emotionally endearing moments when Patrick Wilson sings Elvis. It's truly an entrancing, charming moment.
Although it tries to do a bit too much and the story isn't as surprising this time around it still makes for a solid and inspired cinematic experience. And yes it takes place on Christmas.
Rating= 8.75/10
