25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS HORROR DAY III

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION
Paramount 88 Mins. Chris J. Shaw, British Shaw, Ivy George and Olivia Taylor Dudley Star. Directed by Gregory Plotkin (Hellfest)
Rated R for strong language, violence and gore.

Alternative Christmas movie take 3. Let's face it after the first two Paranormal Activity movies the series doesn't have much to offer. The 3rd is just okay with some creative moments. The 4th is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The Marked ones is mostly blah with some unintentionally funny moments. The problem with the franchise was that they never really showed you the goods. And even though the first was crazy atmospheric and the 2nd had some truly inspired twists, the third is just packed with teases and than just nothing. When I first saw this in theaters on opening night previews with 3 other people in the huge empty auditorium in 3D I had a hell of a time.

It was mostly goofy but it finally shows the questionable Demonic goods as the spirits are revealed through the use of the complex film camera from the third, I think. The effects are really cool and they really jumped off the screen in 3D. The film does bring the whole franchise's confusing ass storyline to a conclusion for better or worse. Revisiting it now it's definitely less effective but still is the best entry since the second and maybe the most entertaining overall. There's still those drawn out pauses we've come to expect from the series but there's less this time around opting for jump out scares from the nasty Ghoulies.

 And guess what it all takes place around round Christmas which has some symbolism with the films purpose. So enjoy this alternative Christmas Horror flick that brings a troubled franchise to a somewhat satisfying close for the most part anyway. And unsurprisingly it's all getting rebooted next year so there's no real point.

RATING= 6.5 KILLER SANTAS OUT OF 10
