1974 98 Mins. Olivia Hussey, John Saxon and a Andrea Martin star. Written by Roy Moore Directed by Bob Clark Rated R for strong language, violence and gore.
When first seeing this film is I found it to be a bit boring to be honest. But finally I've revisited and I have to tell you it's a damn good movie. I was just Blown away by how mean Spirited and darkly comical it is. And I was truly Blown away by how the movie wasn't afraid to be feminist tackling themes of sexism and abortion as well as providing a social commentary about THE youth at the time.
The setup seems generic at this point. Basically a group of Sorority sisters are stalked and murdered around Christmas. The killers true motives are never exposed but only hinted at which makes it all the more Scary. The film is well directed with an intriguing screenplay, truly chilling cinematography and solid performances all around especially from a complex Margot Kidder.
Besides being filled with nightmarish moments the film is also quite funny. I see now why this film is such an enduring classic. Controversial when it was released it still explores important subject matter without pulling any punches and for that alone is more than impressive.
RATING = 8.5 KILLER SANTAS OUT OF 10
