25 DAYS OF XMAS VI

WIND CHILL
Columbia 2007 91 Mins. Emily Blunt, Ashton Holmes and Martin Donovan star. Written by Joe Gangemi (Fear Itself) and Steven Katz (Shadow of the Vampire). Directed by Gregory Jacobs (Magic Mike XXL) Rated R for language, violence and disturbing images.

Produced by George Clooney and Steven Sodergerg Wind Chill was unjustly dumped to a limited release in April of 2007 and than arriving on DVD in August. I try to revisit this every few years around the horrific holiday as it takes place on Christmas break. A young woman on her way home for the Holidays answers an ad at her college to share a ride back to her family's home in Delaware. She's a bit attitudey and sassy at first and than she begins to discover some disturbing truths about her driver. Eventually they end up crashing after being run off the road by a weird, phantom car and than the frights really begin.

 They begin to see ghoulish specters and start to experience Strange occurrences discovering they may be in a Haunted area where people have been collected over the years. The performances from Ashton Holmes and especially Emily Blunt are impressive. The movie plays like an extended Twilight zone episode and the culmination of events is original and surprising.

The movie is definitely Creepy but it's done in a classic style. It's atmospheric and suspenseful but is also funny and the leads are definitely charming. All in all its a unique little Hidden gem that makes for an intriguing watch thats well worth your time if you're in the mood for something chilling with a slow burn execution. I only wished it all led to something a bit more but still it makes for a solid genre entry.

RATING= 7.5 KILLER SANTAS OUT OF 10
