Here we go with another visit to remake town. With 2010's super exploitative cinematic trash dump in a good way, Piranha 3D. Directed by Alexander Aja of the superior Haute Tension a.k.a. High Tension. This version of the killer fish story is worth a watch because it's a ridiculous amount of fun. Elizabeth Shue stars as the town sheriff and she's pretty bad ass as she tries to stop Spring break from happening in a spring break town. Ving Rhames is her bad ass co captain and Jerry O' Connell is a slimy porn producer. Sexy Steven R. McQueen of Vampire Diaries stars as the sheriff's son and Jessica Szohr as his annoying would be girlfriend. The film opens with an homage to Jaws with Richard Dreyfuss drinking Amity beer while singing the song from the original film drunk. It's a pretty clever cameo and from than on the film seems very self aware of exactly the type of film. Delivering fully on every level especially the use of 3D. From Giant floppy and buoyant breasts to slow motion asses to regurgitated penises and floating silicon implants Piranha really does seem to have it all. Sure it's a little light on plot but any movie that has Eli Roth as a chauvinistic DJ getting his face blown up between two boats and has adorable funny man Adam Scott as the hero is well worth the effort. So leave your brain at the door grab a 40 and some popcorn and chow down on a deliciously dirty cinematic treat. ****/5
