A bullied teen at a military academy discovers a satanic bible and makes a deal with the devil to bring his oppressors down. I can't believe I've never seen this movie in the 34 years that it's been out. I'm not saying it's amazing but it's actually kind of great. Despite it's obvious limitations it holds up pretty well. For most of it's run time I was questioning if it was even a horror movie. It was working as a drama until it's final third when things get crazy to say the least. Evilspeak is a solid movie because it connects on an emotional level making the proceedings feel relatable. It also features an impressive lead performance from Howard usually overlooked,  he adds a real sense of vulnerability to his character. It all culminates in an insane, justified, slightly silly and splatteriffic finale. The use of practical effects are mostly impressive and the addition of some very early CGI doesn't hold up but adds to the retro factor regardless. So if you haven't make an effort to check this little gem out. It's definitely a product of it's time but this base story will always be relevant just look at the recent horror hit Unfriended which this far superior to of course. ****/5
