On the original's 10th anniversary Halloween 4 hit theaters and resurrected the infamous slasher. I'm sure what I'm about to say is sacrilegious but although I believe the original to be the best quality film of the bunch. Halloween 4 is my favorite and the most entertaining of the series. Not only did it bring the silent killer back to his well deserved fame but arrived with a taut, edge of your seat, action packed sequel that had him targeting his niece now in foster care. The performances are strong across the board especially from the late Donald Pleasence, A career making turn from Danielle Harris as lil Jamie Lloyd and Ellie Cornell as one hell of a kick ass final girl. The killing scenes are inspired, including death by barrel of a shot gun, a head crush and eye gouging amongst many others. And there are so many now classic scenes that set the bar for all genre films after it including a sweaty palm inducing chase across a rooftop. It all culminates with a smart, franchise renewing twist that's never really followed through on. Sure there are a few hard to believe moments here and there such as the amount of kids willing to dress up as Myers but in the end it's one of the most quotable, memorable horror sequels ever made. And has earned it's well deserved reputation as a franchise favorite! *****/5
