RAISING CAIN (1992)

Brian's Depalma's 1992 masterpiece is a familial nightmare of trippy proportions. A brilliant John Lithgow stars in the lead as a Cain, a man who has multiple personalities. His psyche breaks when he witnesses his wife having an affair with her ex lover. To make her pay he chloroforms her and traps her in a car that's submerged in a lake. Although it may seem as though I'm spoiling stuff for you that's just the tip of the cinematic nightmare. The movie has s fever dream quality to it and there are times when it feels as though you're part of a repetitive waking nightmare. It's fun and creepy and wonderfully stylish. But most of all it's original and unique and a perfect blending of what makes DePalmas work so effective.
